Dang

A whole month has passed without a blog post? I have been a busy bee!!

The first order of business: Baby L #2. I am 20 weeks along and have an ultrasound scheduled a week from tomorrow. We are actually considering finding out the sex this time, believe it or not!! This inclination is mainly due to a slip of the tongue at the first ultrasound, wherein the tech said something that makes us strongly suspect we are having a boy. Now, we kinda feel like we may as well just confirm what we're 99% sure of anyway.

BUT, wouldn't it be fun to go in, so confident it's a boy, and then out pops a little baby girl!?

I am really on the fence. It was such great fun not knowing with Gus. But we feel like we already know with this one, so why not just take that final step?

I do think it's nice though for babies to be allowed to declare themselves at birth. There are so few mysteries anymore, and keeping this detectable fact about your unborn seems sometimes, to me, like the right thing to do.

Thoughts?

oh PLEASE find out the sex!!! please please please!

i hadn't totally wanted to with my pregnancy but as you know, due to certain circumstances, we did, so i would love nothing more than for one of my bestest gals to also end up knowing despite initially not wanting to...

plus i'm totally impatient about this kind of stuff and currently all my lingering patience is being spent on waiting for babymac to make her entrance.

so that's my vote! :-)

oh, and it can't hurt to experience pregnancy in both ways, can it? you already know what it's like to have the joy of being surprised at the time of birth - why not now find out the second time around so you can know what it's like to go through a birth knowing what the sex is ahead of time? and then for baby #3 down the road, you can go back to choosing based on which prior experience you liked the best!

yay for different experiences!

I'd really like to know what the 'slip' was.... like, 'oh, wow, that's not a leg?!'

I like the idea of having them declare themselves.... but I guess my question would be: does knowing really make any difference? With Gus, you guys had male and female names picked out and you let Gus 'declare' himself into the name that fit him best. Seems to me you'd do the same, even if you knew the sex. Toss a few girl names in the hat just in case (I was supposed to be a boy btw) and just do the same thing with this wee un!

It makes my heart smile that you are getting all Mommyfied again!

Yay for baby dos! Congrats, Laura! I have to say, we also loved being surprised at Mary's birth, but I can see advantages both ways. We were SURE Mary was a boy - I read into everything the ultrasound techs said and was convinced it had been given away. How wrong was I?? My doc even guessed boy...and guess what?!? We have a Mary! So, you never know. You might think you're having a boy just because that's what you know already - I'm thinking girl! Love it!!! I miss your posts- keep 'em coming! xoxo

OK- I posted my long, beautiful response twice and couldn't get it to go through.
So I am skipping all that and, just saying, that while I am feeling super guilty for saying this, I will go ahead and say it- FIND OUT! I am dying to know.

I vote that you don't find out. I'm with you on the so-few mysteries biz. Ultrasounds get misread frequently, no? Especially so early on. Two ladies in my yoga class were sure they were having a (insert sex), after ultrasounds confirmed this, and both were still surprised at birth! Love to baby #2! -Mia
